I Love a Nice Breeze but a Wind Storm….NO

There isn’t much I enjoy about a wind storm.  I love wind; the gentle breeze that makes the curtains dance and gives your home that fresh feeling but a wind storm is awful.  That is unless you have kites to fly!

I was gasping for air as I watched the wind tear up my canopy on the deck.  It also destroyed a gorgeous clematis along with my jasmine that were growing beautifully over a trellis on the deck to provide some privacy.  It was making me crazy as the sand/dirt was attaching itself to the dogs.

Luckily I remembered some kites we bought a few weeks ago but haven’t had the chance to use.  As with all things H was initially scared.  I’m not sure why since we flew kites last year often.  It could have been that while she was watching L fly her own kite it nearly lifted her (L) off the ground. Or maybe it was because the wind would fling the kites all over, often times attacking the girls.

We had a blast, once she warmed up, and I would take the kite and maneuver it so it would be low enough for them to reach but pull it back before they caught the tail.  They spent some time doing this as well.  They had kite fights, attached them to their bikes and “ran” from them when the wind changed direction sending the kites directly at them.

Sadly but as usual, the skipped nap lead us to a H breakdown.  Notice the slumped shoulders as L continues to fly and I continue to snap pictures.

I do love flying kites and that wind storm surely made it easy; no running, just lift the kite and it would stay up.  As annoying as a melt down is it makes for some funny stories and facial expressions especially since I know it’s not a true fear.  Sorry H but you make me laugh.
