Creative Avoidance
I just read about this from Rory Vaden. Basically it is just a more clever way of procrastinating. And I am a master procrastinator. I get it from my Dad along with being utterly sloppy by way of spilling my food/drink, spending too much and snoring.
Social Media is my biggest distractor. I am a newbie to Facebook, maybe 2 years tops, a few months old on twitter and about a year on LinkedIn however I have totally succumbed to the virtual world and officially accepted my title as a junkie about a year ago when a lady I knew offered me a job working from home maintaining all her social media sites. I acted like I knew everything and then spent quite a few hours learning it. Since then I have landed a few lovely side jobs helping people with their on-line world and now it is my main job for the wonderful Donnelly Group.
None-the-less I’m obsessed with it. Don’t act like you aren’t either. I know far too many secrets about the sneakers. My husband is one. He is brilliant with gadgety crap but it’s because he set up a twitter account years ago and follows a hand full of techy nerds that keep him up to date on all the latest and greatest. I also catch him perusing my Facebook. People need to just admit they love it.
Anyway back to my obsession. It is my creative avoidance now as I like to refer to it. I can get my job done, and my blogging done in a very realistic non-addictive amount of time but I always get caught up in something pretending it’s research or educational. I’m just procrastinating to getting to the taxes, the daunting job of cleaning the attic, of putting another pair of food encrusted toddler shirts in the laundry.
I know I’m procrastinating so if anyone out there can help me curb this awful habit please let me know otherwise keep feeding your creative avoidance by following my blog.
But seriously what is your creative avoidance?
Sewing is my creative avoidance. I need to figure out how to make a living doing it.
