Holiday Weekend Preparation

Holiday time!  Time to get ready and did we get ready!  We have big plans for this holiday weekend and luckily (and rather unusually) Steve has a lot of time off so he was able to help us get ready!

We started yesterday with our annual strawberry picking and I can’t wait to make so many yummy, dairy free treats!

L picked her very own bucket without complaint while H, who skipped nap, stole my strawberries and declared them to be her own; weasel.

Last year I posted pictures of each year and while they have grown so much their sloppy strawberry eating has not!

When we got home, I cut my peonies which are making a comeback.  We moved my plants two years ago and I didn’t think they were going to make it.  For years I would get anywhere from 250 blooms to 300 blooms.  We had peonies in every room!  The neighbors had peonies, my friends had peonies, if you stopped by you got a vase full of them.  Now I only get about 50 but I’ll take that over zero.

They are so beautiful but don’t last long so you have to enjoy them while they’re hot!  And just look at these beauties!

While I was doing that the girls helped Steve mow the lawn and clean the lawnmower.

Lastly, and my favorite part, was letting them decorate!

Oh my Lordy!  There is nothing better than what a child thinks is party ready!

The girls are super excited because Uncle Joe is coming to visit and he was in the Navy.  I explained to the girls all about Memorial Day and even though Uncle Joe (and Pop- our veterans) are still alive, they are still proud to show him their decorating!

We have a weekend full of fun including beach time, bbq time, and my favorite, relaxing with some of my favorite people!

I can’t wait to visit all my favorite bloggers next week since I am taking a mini social media break in honor of our Men and Women.

What exciting plans do you have?

23 Ways to Tire Out Your Kids for FREE

I don’t know about you but I have very energetic gals.  Some say just like their Mom; I say like their Dad!  But either way they get bored at times so we get creative on how to wear them out so they release all that energy in time for sweet, sweet bedtime.

Here is our list….

  1. Go for a walk
  2. Hop on hippity hops
  3. Go to a playground
  4. Walk through the zoo
  5. Go to the pool or beach
  6. Take a bike ride or scooter ride
  7. Go on a bouncy house or bounce on the bed
  8. Play a game of tag
  9. Kick a soccer ball around
  10. Turn the fans off so they sweat to death
  11. Run through the sprinkler
  12. Jump on a trampoline
  13. Chase bubbles
  14. Wrestle
  15. Play hide and seek
  16. Let them help drag the hose to water the plants and yard
  17. Take a hike
  18. Have a scavenger hunt
  19. Dump a bag of 50 plastic balls in the yard and have them each collect a color as fast as they can
  20. Teach them to hula hoop- hysterical!
  21. Have relay races
  22. Play dodge ball or baby
  23. Just go outside!  Rain, snow, sun….just go!

Or you could just rent Steve for the day and do one of the following…. get tossed, walk the plank, indo board, or almost die in a baby pool.

You decide.  What am I missing?  What fun the summer brings but most of these you can do in the chilly temperatures also…most I said.
Before you leave can i steal a vote? Kindly appreciate it!

Swimming in December?

I woke up yesterday to little girls who were half naked because they were hot during the night.  Well no wonder, the evening air never dropped below 50 and the day called for 70.  WHAT?! In December!

Well you know what this means; a trip to The Cove.  Seeing as though I have been a horribly cranky woman due to lack of sleep I thought this would be a great way to spend the day.  I also needed to get some pictures for TurtleGurlz so I will knock two2 birds out with one stone.

After October’s crazy weather spurts I didn’t think we would top it but apparently allowing 2 little angels to stick their feet in the water would seem pretty innocent:

Which once my back was turned to photograph some scarves turned into this:

Oh well.  It was rather entertaining because as they would run out of the water, due to the chilly temperature, one would inevitably fall and the look on her face when her chest hit the water and she lost her breath was awesome!  I had tears streaming down my face.  They couldn’t even yell, just gasps were leaking out.

They had a great time.  We were able to get lots of pictures, lots of running and swimming, we even found a seashell.  H fell asleep as soon as she got in her car seat and L, never tiring, danced to Christmas music all the way home.

Lastly you know it’s a great day when this is what you have to do…..

Happy December!!!!!!!
