Let Me See That Jelly Roll

There are many reasons for Damn-it Steve and this is just one small thing.  While it seems like I’m just being nit-picky, it truly is time consuming and messy these jelly rolls.

I work on Wednesdays so that lovely day has been deemed “Daddy Fun Day” which simply means “little rules apply day.”

Once again my clever husband has entertained the kids with his new lunch invention of the Jelly Roll.  What is a Jelly Roll?

  1. Each girl gets 2 pieces of bread and a roll pin.  They roll their bread out super flat, however since they aren’t strong enough to get it Daddy flat, I have to step in and help.
  2. Then they cut off the crusts.  The girls with knifes doesn’t bother me- they are butter knifes and they have been spreading their toppings on toast for a year now- it’s that they end up cutting most of the bread off.  It leaves a mess and is wasteful.
  3. Next they spread jelly out.  This is uber messy; like purple syrup.  And in case you didn’t know this is a syrup free home.
  4. Finally…roll.

This is fine if time permits but usually it doesn’t so I am stuck with the task.  It is great because they always eat them and I’ve tweaked the recipe so we leave the crust on; I try to roll with the crust mostly inside so they don’t see.
